Across Ukraine, a unilateral Russian-announced ceasefire over the Orthodox Christmas period was stillborn, as fighting continued at large around the country. On the eastern front near Kupiansk, the lines have moved little since Russia’s forces collapsed during the Kharkiv offensive late in the summer, and residents are exhausted with near constant shelling.
