NATO’s Frantic Huddle On Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that his troops have “taken an initiative” in the southeast on July 9. Zelensky said Ukrainian troops pressed on with their campaign to recapture Russian-held areas after an earlier slowdown. Ukraine’s General Staff also reported that its forces have advanced in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Kyiv said the Russian army carried out 27 airstrikes and 37 attacks with MLRS over the past day. Meanwhile, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said one of his units was deployed in the Bakhmut area. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has threatened to attack Ukraine’s nuclear plants and other nuclear facilities in Europe. NATO allies including US, the UK, France, and Germany are engaged in “frantic, last-minute” talks over Ukraine, Politico reported. The NATO nations are have discussions over providing a security assistance declaration for Ukraine before the alliance’s summit.
