My Interview with the Countess – Laoise De Brún June 29, 2023 Unipro2013main Irish Chat </p> <h2>Gender Recognition Act</h2> <p> Earlier in the week, I attended a press conference in Buswell’s hotel, across the road from Dáil Eireann in Dublin. The Countess and Laoise De Brún were launching a policy research document and drive to get a section of the Gender recognition act amended. Peadar Toibin TD and Carol Nolan TD joined Laoise with a draft amendment bill and they are looking for about 10 TDs to sign it so this amendment can be taken to the next stage. Ireland is a self-ID country which means anyone can change their gender and receive a gender recognition certificate. The Countess is a group of men and women whose mission is to promote and protect the best interests of the women and children of Ireland. This was a cherished ideal of the founders of the Irish State, including our namesake, Countess Markiewicz, a minister in the first Dáil and the first female cabinet minister in Europe.</p> <p>What is the amendment seeking to amend you might ask?</p> <p>Well, in short, to get men out of women’s prisons. A UK study, referenced in The Countess policy and research paper show that in 2019 56% of trans-identified males in UK prisons were sex offenders.
