The India-Canada dispute has refocused attention on the Sikh diaspora in Canada. Sikhs make up 2.1% of the population and represent the largest Sikh community outside of India. Sikhs began migrating to Canada in the late 19th century due to their involvement in the British Empire’s armed services. The first significant wave of Sikh migration to Canada started in 1897 during Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.
