Broken Arrow
The U.S. narrowly avoided a catastrophic disaster when two Mark 39 hydrogen bombs were accidentally dropped over Goldsboro, North Carolina, on January 23, 1961. The bombs were released when a B-52 United States Air Force bomber broke apart midair. A mishap like this, involving the loss of nuclear weapons, is known by the military code name “Broken Arrow.” This definitely takes a spot in the top 10 Nuclear Disasters in History!
