Democrats in Disarray: Damaging stalemate puts Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill in jeopardy

Democrats in Disarray

The future of the Democrats’ bipartisan infrastructure bill is unclear, after progressives vowed not to vote for the legislation unless a separate $3.5 trillion family benefits package passes the Senate. The $1.2 trillion package was passed, with bipartisan support, in the Senate in August.

The infrastructure bill was due to be brought to a vote in the House on Monday. Speaker Nancy Pelosi delayed the vote until Thursday, however it is not clear the legislation has enough progressive votes in order to pass, despite the Democrats controlling the House of Representatives.
