there are international implications for Australia if Prime Minister Scott Morrison does not adopt a net zero by 2050 policy. “It seems like the prime minister desperately wants to get to that net zero by 2050 commitment before Glasgow happens, of course, he’s now not publicly committed to going to Glasgow,” he told Sky News Australia.

Professor Wesley said if Mr Morrison was committed to Glasgow it would be a “really bad look” as no commitment has yet been made. He said global superpowers and nations in the Indo-Pacific are watching to see what Australia climate policy and commitments will be. “We know that pretty much every single Pacific Island state in our own region is heavily critical of Australia’s position on climate change,” he said.
